Wow! That was powerful! In America, we hear how the Atomic Bomb was justifiable with Pearl Harbor and what not, but that is something we never see. I, personally, have always been a peaceful person with the belief that war solves nothing and that really proves it. You kind of have to ask yourself: "What did that accomplish?". Ooh, wow, we can make a bomb that can kill everyone in the entire world. This may sound a bit like reason, but the only reason this country (USA) is so "great" is because we have incredible military power and many other countries are frightened. I thought your presentation was elible, straight forward and very well presented. Kudos to you for having the courage to really stand up for something you really believe in. I wish more people could follow in your footsteps. Don't give this up. Hillary (高校生) |

After the presentation, I thought and looking at the people and actually seeing the people it caused me wonder how we could have dropped a bomb. I know it was out of a response to defend our country because then and now, we do not tolerate people that harm us.
I am reminded of the WTC retaliation. I wonder if our feelings now about defending our country were the same as they were back then, if so, I am proud we have such a strong since of nationalism. Contrary, I do not think we would have bombed if we knew the long-everlasting effects. This was a past event and will not be repeated because of this new knowledge of nuclear/radiation effects. Dear Yumiko,
This is Jesse talking. I just want to tell you that I'm doing fine. What is it like living in Japan? What is your birth date? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, so I'm going to calm it down a little. Thank you for teaching us how to make friends. I think you're a great friend. Do you have Kimono? I wish I did. I think 6,000 letters is A LOT!! How do you sit on those toilets? It's sort of weird. You have a lot of people in Japan. The menus made me HUNGRY! You are lucky you get to eat that yummy food. I wish I could talk some more, but I've got to go. Maybe next time.
From your Friend, Jesse (小2) P.S. It was nice meeting you.

Of course I wish for peace. Guns & bombs and weapons of destruction never need to be used to prove a point. Especially the killing of innocent to prove a point. Peace is wanted all around the world. I know there are billions of people who want peace so why don't we listen to the majority instead of a few selected leaders.

I feel very sorry about the whole thing. This is the first time I actually got to see what really happened to people when the A-bomb dropped. Because when we study this time we don't really learn about what happened after and we don't see how much pain they went through. I feel horrible for what happened and I hope it never happens again.

I think that what you are doing is a great thing. Americans are such arrogant people who do not pay a lot of attention to anything that is not from America. So when we are able to learn about a culture that is not our own, it greatly expands our knowledge.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about peace, but what our country has been doing is waging wars. I don't know if there will ever really be peace again in this world, but we can always hope, dream, and strive for more peaceful relationships on Earth.

I think peace is the most important thing there is. And it is also one of the hardest things to achieve. But with this program I think peace will be able to be achieved much faster. Yumiko said that many of you don't hate us and I thank you for that. I think that might be the most important step in peace.

I feel that it is bad that we had to drop the bomb. But at the same time if it wasn't done then worse and more destruction could have happened. It's terrible, but it may prevent worse. It opened the worlds eyes on this evil.

I'm for peace totally man, but its hard to say at times, because war can be necessary depending on the situation. But if I had to chose, I would stick with being peaceful.

Nothing Japan did to the U.S. could have justified the hundreds of thousands of lives lost to these bombs. The presentation was excellent and very informative, and helped me learn a lot I didn't know.

I think that people who survived the bomb are incredible for their forgiveness and wanting of peace. They forgive America for the A-bomb, yet we bring up Pearl Harbor every other second. They have the right idea, but our country's mentality does not have room for peace. Maybe we could learn a little from the people across the pond.

Peace rules. It makes me angry when people fight. Give peace a chance. Why can't we all just get along?

I think that the world definitely needs to be more peaceful. Even if you don't like someone or their beliefs doesn't mean you have to be violent. Everyone is different and believed different things. We just need to respect other people and even if you don't agree or like them just talk about it or something. You don't need to be violent.

That was really horrible for anyone to go through that. I only hope that will never happen again. I feel really guilty that us, (Americans) could do something so mean. For the people that had to go through the pain and agony of the bombs. I hope you can forgive us for that, and go about life without that horrible memory in your life. Have a great day, and I wish peace to all of you. Mary(高校生) |

I think that America hasn't been all that concerned with peace in the past. I think our country has been selfish and greedy for power and I hope that my generation will now strive for a peaceful world without war.

Thank you for coming in and showing your culture and experiences with us. I have always thought that the dropping of the a-bombs was horrible but it means more to hear about first-hand knowledge. I have been to Tokyo and Kyoto and I think Japan is a great and beautiful place.

I think that we, as Americans, should be more culturally acceptant of other people of different races and different countries. If we can get along in daily life, it should be easier to avoid conflict.

I believe that we as a world should work hard for peace. Now that nations have nuclear power to wipe out so much life we should make sure no one ever gets to use it. Peace is what is going to keep this world going. We need to do what takes to get peace so nothing like what happened to the people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki EVER happens again.

Before this presentation, the word "War" in my mind was simply a battle of a very large scale. But now, I can't think of the word "War" without having those visions flash through my mind.
I truly hope that War Never occures ever again.

I have much empathy for you and I pray it will never happen again. Yumiko, after hearing you speak, I have decided to do anything I can do to make this world a peaceful one. Thank you for all your hard work.
